Fine Arts Scholar Application

AWE Student Board Member & Fine Arts Scholar 2024-25

Up to 3 Students will be selected and will receive a $500 educational scholarship (to be used for lessons, enrichment classes, art camps, or college) if they fulfill requirements of the position.

Serving as a student representative on the AWE Board offers a student:

  • nonprofit volunteer board member experience

  • leadership and service opportunities throughout the year

  • the opportunity to grow, shape, build, and influence the arts in our schools and community

Requirements must be met to receive $500 scholarship

  • 1. Must be current SOPHOMORES or JUNIORS at WAHS.

  • 2. Must demonstrate leadership qualities.

  • 3. Must be involved in one or more of the arts programs (band, orchestra, theater, creative writing, ceramics, photography, fine arts)

  • 4. Must be NOMINATED or ENDORSED by a teacher from the Fine Arts Dept or AWE Board member (nomination does not mean they are selected).

  • 5. Must complete application and personal statement.

  • 6. Must be willing to attend 6 out of 10 of the AWE monthly meetings. Meetings have been held the 4th Tuesday of the month from 6:30-8:00.

  • 7. Must regularly check email for AWE communications, as this is the primary form of communication between AWE members and volunteers.

  • 8. Must commit a full day of volunteering for at least one of AWE's ArtsDayOff day camps, held at an area elementary school on teacher workdays, 8am to 4pm, with lunch provided. Assisting with the planning of ArtsDayOff will be appreciated but not required

  • 9. Must actively participate in the planning, promotion, execution, and student volunteer staffing of the annual ArtsFest in the West music and arts showcase and silent auction held in early spring. Attendance at ArtsFest planning meetings (in addition to monthly board meeting) may be required in the 1-2 months prior to ArtsFest.

  • 10. May also be called upon to attend and brief presentations outside of school hours during music and arts performances, to introduce AWE's mission and contributions, and share the importance of the arts or music in the student's life in and outside of WAHS.

Scholarship money

Scholarship can be used to support the student's music or art lessons, camps, enrichment classes, or college tuition. Checks will be made directly to the teacher, camp, class or college.

Recognition

The honor of being selected as an AWE Student Board Member & Fine Arts Scholar will be recognized individually during the AWE ArtsFest in the West showcase event held in the spring, and also at the WAHS Valediction Ceremony prior to WAHS Graduation Ceremony.
